Build hope

Ryan Moore, Builders International Director

"Someday, when you meet Sam Paris in person, ask him why he always carries a spork when trekking to new villages in Vanuatu! Sam and Lisa Paris serve as missionaries on the remote island of Tanna, and God is using them in a special way. Their family needs A PLACE to call home, as well as a base for their ministry work, which impacts the entire island nation of Vanuatu. I’m excited that we are launching it now!"
Sam and Lisa Paris live in a 480 square foot home along with their four children near an active volcano that constantly spits ash. The Tanna Mission Center will provide safe and adequate housing for this family of six, while making room for vital ministries that will impact the entire island nation.
the DESCRIPTION
The Tanna Mission Center has three phases.

Phase 1 is the ministry center, mission house, and a fence, which will provide work space and a secure home for the Paris family, making room for two teenagers, two pre-teens, a 6'5" dad, and a mom! It will also incorporate proper ventilation to keep dangerous volcanic ash out of the house.

Phase 2 is the coordinating center, which will include a kitchen for hosting events and outreaches, office space, covered meeting space for workshops and conferences. A Bible Training Center will also be launched from the coordinating center.

Phase 3 will include housing for missionary associates and short-term workers, as well as a community outreach center which will include a recreation and fitness area, as well as a multipurpose space to host medical clinics, etc. This space will include a stage to be utilized for productions and outreaches.
the BENEFITS
The Tanna Mission Center will allow the Paris family, as well as other team members, to thrive in their ministry work and remain healthy while leading ministries and programs of the coordinating center. In a nation where cannibalism was outlawed in the 1980’s, the Tanna Mission Center will serve as the launching point for ministry on the island of Tanna, throughout Vanuatu, and beyond!
“Many of the customs in this country are still intact from hundreds, even thousands of years ago. Some of the first missionaries to this country were cannibalized, so the term ‘missionary’ is actually respected by village chiefs because they recognize that the way that was paved for us to be here was paid with blood...the ultimate sacrifice.” - Sam Paris

Meet The Paris Family - Sam, Lisa, Liam, Kailee, Ari, Terry

Sam and Lisa Paris, along with their children, are bringing the Hope of Jesus to this island nation of Vanuatu. They have served in Tanna since 2015. God has opened doors for them to share the gospel to the unreached tribes located throughout the center of the island while encouraging the existing church. Their family is committed to take the gospel where it has never been! Sam and Lisa both grew up as missionary kids to Asia Pacific. Sam grew up in Japan and Lisa grew up in Tonga and Guam, serving alongside their missionary parents. They have four children, Liam - age 15, Kailee - age 13, Ari - age 12, and Terry - age 8. The Paris Family is impacting the island nation of Vanuatu...and YOU CAN HELP!

The Tanna Mission Center is crucial for many reasons:

  • Health: An active volcano constantly erupts, covering the inside of their home with ash. Their house doesn’t even have a fan, much less an air conditioning system to clear the air in the house of the ash...they have to wipe volcanic ash from their faces every morning when they awake! Lisa, especially, has dealt with some fairly severe breathing issues due to this. The Tanna Mission Center will have an air conditioning system, ceiling fans, and fully enclosed bedrooms so they can escape the ash!
  • Space: This family of 6 has crammed into 480 square feet for years! With two teenagers and two preteens who are growing up quickly and all homeschool...plus Sam, who is 6’5” tall, more space is an absolute must! The Tanna Mission Center will give them much needed space to be the most effective in their family life and ministry work!
  • Advancing the gospel: Pastoral training is absolutely vital because many of these pastors grew up learning ancestral worship. Once they are saved, they know the love of Jesus, but if they are not adequately trained, they will continue to teach what they know. Pastors need to be properly equipped to teach the true gospel and transform Vanuatu...one village at a time!
  • Encourage the church: There is an established national church in Vanuatu. The Paris family and other team members and missionaries come alongside them and encourage them to continue preaching the gospel.
What will the Tanna Missions Center provide?
  • Adequate housing for the Paris family’s health and well-being.
  • Lodging  for additional missionary team members and short-term workers.
  • A meeting place for the national church.
  • A facility for pastoral training, workshops, and retreats.
  • A Bible Training Center.
  • A school for missionary children.
  • Office space for ministry work and meetings.
  • Staging and launching point for ministry throughout Vanuatu and beyond!

Did you know in a village on the island of Tanna…

a blind elder had a dream that two men who belong to God were coming to his village?
When they arrived, he wept and told them he had been waiting for them.
